3D images of complex environments and geometries can be generated in mere minutes. These can then be used for accident reconstruction, 3D modelling of process plants, architectural preservation tasks, digital factory layouts and deformation monitoring. These images resemble an exact measurable copy of even the most complex and large structures. Installation drawings are extremely important; it’s imperative that they be as accurate as possible to enable a smooth installation process for the seismic projects on site.
Once point cloud data is captured, it still needs to be modelled in Revit – whether that be the architecture, structure or M&E Services. NZ MEP Fabrications have precise protocols and workflows in place to ensure that the survey data is accurately modelled and ready for fabrication in our state-of-the-art fabrication facility.
There are software packages that claim to provide Scan to BIM solutions, but – due to the data review process required to model – it’s a skillset that’s a long way from being replaced by software. At NZ MEP Fabrications, our Revit engineers complete a thorough review of the intricate architectural details or structural supports and model them accordingly.
Our deliverables meet or exceed clients’ requirements and project BEP by way of .dwg, .pdf, and native .rvt formats. We also use Navis .nwd and .nwc formats for those all-important clash review and coordination meetings with the project team.
Our engineers have many years of experience in the field and specialise in taking consulting engineers’ designs in 2D and Revit MEP format, before developing them into construction-level documentation, spool map and cut sheets for fabrication. Those fabricated parts will then be transported from our yard and installed with millimetre-perfect precision on site.

Our survey team attend site under the approved JSEA and work instructions, using a safe and discrete point cloud scanner to capture the installation areas.
The individual scans are stitched together, offering us a millimetre-perfect 3D representation of the site installation area. All crucial dimensions are checked.
Using the scanned data as a base, we model structual steel from the design drawings and schematics – ensuring the correct sizes. We also review and coordinate the routes within the existing services and structure to cover the seismic design required by our client.
Once the model is complete and signed off, we proceed to cutting to the correct assemblies. The fabrication drawings are created, allowing us to review any pre-fabrication / site measure variants.
The creation of pre-fabrication maps and associated cut sheets provide accurate drawings from the 3D model. The linked fitting schedules are then issued to our team in the yard for manufacture.
Our highly skilled team manufactures the pipework in a controlled factory environment. Health and safety checks are conducted regularly by supervisors and an external party to guarantee the safety of our operatives.
Once manufacturing is complete, internal checks are finalised and all parties on our side are satisfied, we organise the safe transportation and delivery of the pipework and structural steel to site, and handover to the construction team for installation.
We use state of the art precision GPS receivers and software expertise to set our seismic installation. Our development team to focus on solutions N-100 is design specifically for construction applications to pin point at installation. Once completed we proceed to installation.
Our world class team install the seismic requirements to any building to millimeter prefect accuracy for our clients and issue QA packs to include the point cloud survey for our cleints to use within their maintenance plans.
